Vin Diesel Alleges That Marvel Wants to Make a Groot-Only Planet X Movie
One of the most well-liked characters in the MCU is Vin Diesel’s Groot, and the star claims that Groot may soon get his own movie.
With recent films like Moon Knight and Werewolf by Night delving into darker Marvel lore, She-Hulk: Attorney at Law taking a meta-comedy turn, and upcoming films like Blade and Thunderbolts continuing to push the boundaries of the MCU, the Marvel Cinematic Universe has recently been expanding in some new and unexpected ways. Could a Groot solo film be in the franchise’s future? According to actor Vin Diesel, who has played the repetitious but enduring Guardians of the Galaxy character since 2014, Marvel wants to develop a movie about Planet X, the planet where Groot lives.
Groot has been a crucial component of the MCU in addition to featuring in all of the Guardians of the Galaxy films. Groot physically gave his arm to help Thor create Stormbreaker in Avengers: Infinity War, and after coming back for the climactic fight in Avengers: Endgame, he appeared in Thor: Love and Thunder and received a series of adorable, funny films on Disney+. Could Marvel be thinking about giving the character his own movie at this point? Possibly, or perhaps not. Diesel shared a photo of Baby Groot lounging with cucumbers on his eyes on his Instagram page. He added a message saying that his niece had praised him for making the Groot shorts and then revealed a potential plot spoiler. He stated:
“So, my niece called and thanked Uncle Vin for creating I Am Groot, hehe,” she said. the amazing Kristin Lepore’s short films, which she wrote and directed. It was fun to make, and I’m enjoying viewing it with my angels. It seems sense that Marvel would want to develop a Planet X movie.
Vin Diesel Has a History of Giving Away Some Marvel Spoilers
Over the years, a select few Marvel celebrities have consistently been the source of numerous spoilers and early discoveries, sometimes accidentally and sometimes clearly on design. Diesel’s post may be a spoiler or it may be a part of something else, like Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 4, as there has been no official indication that any kind of solo Groot project is in the works.
Alpha Groot will be shown in Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 3, according to Diesel, who also announced that Thor: Love and Thunder would involve the Guardians of the Galaxy. However, James Gunn, the director of the film, has subsequently denied that this will ever happen. Although there are many fan theories suggesting that some major character deaths may be in the works, and that could leave the likes of Groot needing some to re-connect with his own kind, it is currently unknown whether his comments about Marvel wanting to return to Groot’s home planet will come to pass, and could even be set up by the new Guardians movie. That may very well be a story for the future, but if it happens, it will probably have to wait until Phase 7 given that the Multiverse Saga will be the main focus for the upcoming several years.
