Surprise Update for Margot Robbie’s Pirates of the Caribbean
Producer Jerry Bruckheimer provides a favourable update on Margot Robbie’s Pirates of the Caribbean film after the star claimed it had been scrapped. Disney was said to be working on two Pirates of the Caribbean reboots, one written by Chernobyl creator Craig Mazin and series veteran Ted Elliott, and the other a female-led spinoff with Robbie set to star and Christina Hodson authoring the screenplay.
Both projects had a connection to Bruckheimer, who produced all five Johnny Depp-starring Pirates of the Caribbean films. When Robbie claimed her spinoff had been abandoned last month, the second ship, however, seemed to be lost.
Less than a month after Robbie said her Pirates of the Caribbean film was scrapped, it now seems like all hope is not lost. In a recent interview with Collider, Jerry Bruckheimer said that although the other Pirates of the Caribbean revival is being given priority, Robbie’s spinoff has not been shelved. The quote from Bruckheimer is below.
That script, in my opinion, will eventually surface. One of the two tales we produced for Pirates is now moving ahead, so our current focus is on trying to get that one realised.
What the Subject of Margot Robbie’s Pirates of the Caribbean Might Be
For fans who were looking forward to Robbie’s spinoff and were unhappy when the actor revealed it had been scrapped, Bruckheimer’s update on the Pirates of the Caribbean series is quite intriguing. The only thing that is genuinely known about the spinoff, according to Robbie, is that it would be female-led but “not fully female-led.”
The main actor for The Wolf of Wall Street and Once Upon a Time in Hollywood has been cast, while Karen Gillan of Doctor Who and Guardians of the Galaxy has also been tipped to appear. With Hodson penning the story, they’re probably channelling Birds of Prey by surrounding Robbie’s main pirate with a cast of powerful female characters.
Although the actor has promised “plenty of lady power” and voiced faith in Hodson’s ability to provide a “key female aspect to that realm,” there are no official storyline specifics for Robbie’s Pirates of the Caribbean. Robbie is undoubtedly the most significant female component in that equation, and based on her most recent statements, she believes Disney is no longer interested in the female-led revival.
It will be fascinating to see whether Robbie is still up for it or if the female-led Pirates of the Caribbean revival has lost its main star now that Bruckheimer has shown his studio’s interest once again.
Robbie is a sought-after actor, so he won’t keep you waiting around indefinitely. The Academy Award winner has been busy while her Pirates of the Caribbean film has been put on hold, working on David O. Russell’s Amsterdam and Damien Chazelle’s Babylon for 2022, as well as Greta Gerwig’s buzzy Barbie movie and Wes Anderson’s Asteroid City for 2019. Though it’s still uncertain when it will really happen, many people would want to see the Pirates of the Caribbean series added to Robbie’s list of planned projects.
