Vin Diesel’s bizarre Fast & Furious concept is intriguing, but an xXx musical would be even better.

Vin Diesel and TikTok collaborated on a Fast and Furious musical idea. Although this is a wonderful idea, an xXx musical would be even better.

In July, two events coincided to instill a crazy thought in the communal consciousness. First, while promoting Fast and Furious 9, Vin Diesel stated his love of musicals and hinted at the possibility of developing one in the franchise. Following that, Rocky Paterra, a comedian, actor, and musician, took to TikTok to show how a Fast and Furious musical may sound.

While many people laughed, Diesel and Paterra may have hit upon a brilliant concept. But what if the issue isn’t that FF isn’t the Diesel franchise screaming for a musical? What if xXx, the James Bond-like action series, is the Diesel project that’s best suited for a little song and dance?

That isn’t to suggest that the concept of a Fast and Furious musical isn’t appealing. On the contrary, as Paterra has ably proved, the series’ premise of fast vehicles, family, and striving to preserve the world has plenty of fun. If and when such an event occurs, multiplexes will almost probably be packed.

However, the assertion is that xXx would be a better option. Set pieces from spy games and X-Games provide fertile ground for theatrical musical numbers. The franchise is accustomed to traveling the world: in three films, they visit more locations than FF, even at its most wide. That isn’t to suggest that the concept of a Fast and Furious musical isn’t appealing. Of course, the most important factor to consider is the music. The subject matter must give strong themes capable of supporting musical motifs in order to construct a successful musical. xXx has a lot to offer in this area. For example, there’s a conflict between Cage’s desire to fully embrace life and his responsibility to contribute to the world’s salvation. He may also struggle with the uneasy tradeoff that helping the world often necessitates collaborating with institutions he sees as status quo tools.

The xXx universe’s supporting cast gives the filmmakers much more material to work with. Imagine Cage’s handler, Augustus Gibbons (Samuel L. Jackson), lamenting the fact that the planet is still in peril despite his career-long efforts to defend it. Or Ruby Rose’s Adele Wolff (Ruby Rose), enraged by poachers’ injustice as she sees yet another endangered animal pulled from its natural habitat? The xXx franchise offers a diverse range of options.

Is one among those options, however, the production of an xXx musical? Unfortunately, this is a far more difficult problem to solve. Despite rumours that a new xXx film, the fourth in the franchise, would be released in 2018, it appears that it is still three years away. This isn’t caused by script or schedule issues, either.

COVID-19, which has disrupted most people’s lives and livelihoods, appeared to be the obvious culprit at first. However, by the time safer sets became feasible, another stumbling block had emerged. The film series’ rights have become entangled in a complicated case involving many corporations and charges of contract violations.xXx 4 will remain in development hell until the Gordian Knot of who owes what to whom and who failed to deliver on which promise is unraveled.

Given how long cases often take to work their way through the courts, this could be the case for a long time. No amount of soft shoe or “I Want” bangers appears to be going to speed things up.
