Jason Statham, Death Race

In this sci-fi action film, played by Jason Statham, a former NASCAR driver who was wrongfully imprisoned for murder and made to compete in a brutal blood sport with prisoners racing armored vehicles with weapons attached, Death Race 2000, a recreation of the iconic 1970s Roger Corman B film.

Death Race, like many of writer and director Paul W.S. Anderson’s films, wasn’t a huge hit with critics, but it left an impression on viewers and inspired three sequels. It is a more uncommon high-concept hit in Statham’s oeuvre thus far thanks to a strong supporting cast and a lighthearted approach that results in some memorable goofy dialogue.
