Fans anticipate the new Avatar movies. After all, It’s been more than a decade since we last saw the original ground breaking 3D film. The next films will revolutionize cinema as well. For example, director James Cameron said that Avatar 2 will be the first motion picture to use performance capture done under water.
Avatar 2 and 3 were shot back-to-back. Most of the actors return for Avatar 2 including Sam Worthington, Zoe Saldana, Sigourney Weaver, and Stephen Lang. Apparently, Vin Diesel will join the cast. However, he’s using the Andrew Garfield playbook of denial.
Vin Diesel is either a terrible liar, or a very convincing actor. He’s actually funny to watch him dodge questions when MTV’s Josh Horowitz asked him in July 2021:
There has been talk that you might pop up in an Avatar film. Have you shot anything for the new Avatar films?
Vin Diesel didn’t seem prepared for the question. Either that or he and didn’t want to say anything that would mess up his relationship with James Cameron. Vin Diesel answered:
I have spent time with him, but I have not filmed yet. I love James Cameron and I love the series…it’s safe to say that we will be working together.
Small Screen indicated that the Fast and the Furious star will possibly be in Avatar 2 and 3. Cameron announced he finished filming performance capture in November 2018. By September 2020, Cameron revealed he completed that 95% of the third film. Moreover, Vin Diesel announced in 2019 that he joined the cast in an undisclosed role.
Cameron was also there in Diesel’s Instagram post. But since it was already late in production, we aren’t sure how big or small his role is in the films. Our initial guess is that he might be in Avatar 3 to 5. Cameron has already plans for the upcoming films.
We presume that Vin Diesel’s role will be bigger in Avatar 4 and 5. But filming the new sequels will be determined by the success of Avatar 2 and 3 which are planned to be released on December 16, 2022 and on December 20, 2024. Since Avatar is an original story by Cameron, we do wonder how significant Vin Diesel’s role is in these sequels.
